Area and facilities in Hotel Edda Egilsstadir
This place ended up being one of our favorites to stay at during our trip around the whole island! It's a former boarding school turned into a hotel, so the rooms are like dorm rooms. There is tons of space. We had two rooms, one for us and one for our kids - and the kids room had a spiral staircase up to a balcony area with additional sleeping area. It was almost like a whole apartment! It's dated, but clean and spacious. There are tons of little nooks for reading or hanging out outside of the rooms as well. There is a lovely large breakfast area, and the breakfast was a nice inclusion with lots of choices. There is also a restaurant only open a few hours in the evenings, but we didn't eat there ourselves. It was a charming very small town...we would have spent more time if we could! We dined at the most lovely Nielsen restaurant a few blocks away, which I couldn't recommend enough (all Icelandic sourced ingredients and an amazing tasting menu!).

We are group of family (6 people) and booked 2 triple rooms which they managed the room to be closed as requested. The triple rooms have 2 levels (2 beds on the first floor and the other one on the second floor) which is really lovely. There are big windows to see the view which is different between first and second floor. The view from the room is beautiful. There are a lot of parking lot available, and we can temporarily park near the building to bring our luggages down first. The checkin and checkout process is easy.

Every time I stay at an Edda hotel I have the best sleeps. The bed is comfy, and the room is nicely heated or cooled. This was an older hotel and was a little tired in some areas but we had a loft room giving us extra space for 3 people. This was a true 3-person room, not just an extra bed in a double room. The breakfast room was huge with a good selection of cold breakfast items.

The room was small, nice, basic, and comfortable. It is a dorm room during the school year and hotel in summer. This is common in Iceland and makes good use of the building! It is affordable, comfortable, and great for saving money on hotels when all you need a bed and shower. We travel this way in Iceland and this was a lovely hotel that fits.

Derik

We liked our room and found it comfy and spacious enough. The hotel is very clean and has a nice lobby with lots of space. The front desk staff/concierge was especially friendly and helpful. Overall it was a great stay and I would stay here again.
